He farms alongside his wife and two sons. Luis was one of the original participants in Agricafe's Sol De La Mañana program, an initiative built around helping producers improve coffee quality and long-term farm sustainability through education, replanting, and better farm management. When he joined the program, Luis was working one hectare of production. He now farms more than seven.

Natural processing means the coffee cherries are dried whole, with the fruit still intact around the seed. This is how the coffee dries at Luis's farm in Caranavi. The region sits at high elevation with the kind of climate that makes Bolivia a strong origin for fruit-forward naturals. Through the Sol De La Mañana program, Luis has added new varieties, improved his yields, and steadily built a more productive and stable farm over the years.

Monogram has been buying coffee from Luis for more than seven years. Their team visits his farm on trips to Bolivia, and by their account, it is consistently one of the highlights. Over those years they have watched the farm grow, seen a new home take shape, and gotten the latest WWE updates from his kids. That kind of long-term relationship is visible in how consistently this coffee performs from harvest to harvest.

About Monogram

Monogram was started in Calgary by three baristas named Ben, Justin, and Jeremy, who met while working together early in their coffee careers. They came from different backgrounds, music, health sciences, and development, but shared an interest in specialty coffee. Their first setup was a hand-built coffee cart. The Altadore cafe, the first permanent location, opened in 2014.

Their sourcing is built around long-term producer relationships. Ben Put, one of the team's lead competitors, has won the Canadian Barista Championship seven times and placed third at the 2025 World Barista Championship. That competitive background shapes how Monogram approaches roasting: they describe their target as a sweet spot where the coffee is neither underroasted and sharp nor overroasted and flat, with the goal of letting each coffee's natural character come through cleanly.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0677/2880/1852/files/monogram-coffee-luis-choquehuanca-bolivia-natural-caturra-espresso.webp?v=1781806076
