Jura S8 Review (2026): One-Touch Lattes and Hot Milk on a Touchscreen
This Jura S8 review is for anyone deciding whether the S8 belongs in a kitchen where espresso and lattes are made every day. It covers the current S8, the model Jura has sold in North America since early 2025, and what owners say about its touchscreen, milk drinks, daily cleaning and how long it lasts. The deciding question is whether you will use what sets the Jura S8 apart: the touchscreen, plain hot milk for a hot chocolate or a child's warm milk, and stronger Extra Shot milk drinks, which add a second run of coffee to a cappuccino, flat white or latte macchiato.

The S8 grinds, brews and froths each drink from one tap on its touchscreen
A morning on the S8 is filling the water tank, checking the beans and tapping a picture of the drink you want. The S8 grinds fresh beans for every cup, seconds before it pushes hot water through the coffee. For espresso, the S8 sends the water in short pulses, which Jura says gives a small shot more time to take flavour from the coffee. You set the strength on a 10-step scale, which changes how much coffee the S8 grinds, from 5 to 16 g. The S8 warns you before the bean hopper runs empty, and the screen tells you when to empty the grounds container or run a cleaning cycle.
The 4.3-inch touchscreen works like a phone screen. You swipe between pages of drinks, hold a drink to move it to the first page, and copy a drink to save your own version beside the original. Owners use this to save each person's drink at their own size and strength. Owners of the current S8 praise the coffee and how far each drink can be changed, and one owner put it as "you can really adjust everything to your own wishes". The S8 comes with Jura's Wi-Fi Connect transmitter, a small part that plugs into the machine and links it to your home Wi-Fi, so the J.O.E. phone app can start drinks and change recipes from the day you unpack it.
For decaf or a second coffee, a chute beside the bean hopper takes up to two level spoonfuls of ground coffee for a single drink.
The S8 pours milk foam or plain hot milk, chosen with a wheel on the frother
For a milk drink, you put the end of a thin tube into a container of milk, ideally one kept in the fridge or a Jura milk cooler. The S8 draws the milk up and pours it into the cup from a spout beside the coffee spout, which rises to 153 mm for a tall latte glass. A wheel on the frother sets what comes out. On "Milk Foam" the S8 makes the airy foam for a cappuccino or latte macchiato. On "Milk" it pours plain hot milk, for a hot chocolate, a coffee with milk or a child's warm milk. Several owners of Jura models that make foam only say this wheel is the feature they wish their machine had.
Two settings change the drinks themselves. Sweet Foam sweetens the milk foam with syrup from a small attachment that clips onto the frother, and the attachment comes in the box. Extra Shot versions of the cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato and Sweet Latte brew the coffee in two runs with half the water each, for a stronger coffee taste through the milk. One owner switches between almond and cow's milk by moving the tube from one carton to the other between drinks.

Owners' main complaints are the daily milk clean, cool milk drinks, mild espresso and some flimsy plastic parts
The milk system needs a cleaning cycle on every day you make milk drinks, because milk left in the tube spoils. After each milk drink, the S8 asks you to rinse the milk system, or rinses it by itself 8 minutes later if you turn that setting on. For the daily clean, you put the tube into a separate container with water and Jura's milk cleaner and tap "clean", and Jura also asks you to take the frother apart and rinse it about once a week. Jura puts the daily clean at about two minutes, and two S8 owners put it at about 90 seconds. About thirteen owners of older S8s call the milk cleaning a chore, and some of those complaints are about the rinse after every drink, which the current S8 can run by itself. One owner of the current S8 dislikes keeping the plastic cleaning container on the counter.
Owners find the milk drinks cooler than a cafe's. In one owner's measurement on an older S8, the foam left the spout at 51°C (123°F) and a cappuccino in a cold cup measured 67°C (152°F). Jura's manual recommends warming the cup first.
Owners find the S8's espresso milder than a shot from a cafe-style machine, where you grind, fill and press the coffee into the filter basket yourself. A cafe-style machine usually brews a double shot from 18 g or more of coffee, while the S8 brews from 5 to 16 g. One owner of the current S8 weighed 11 to 14 g in a shot, and another found the full-strength normal cup a little weak. An owner of an older S8, after two years, says his espresso is better than a chain coffee shop's and short of his local cafe. For a stronger cup, use the Extra Shot drinks or set a smaller cup size, which puts the same coffee in less water. If you change the grind setting, do it only while the grinder is running, as Jura's manual says.
Two of six European owners of the current S8 find some plastic parts flimsy: one names the drip tray, and another had the water tank flap break the first time she used it. Owners of older S8s with large mugs found the cup platform under the milk spout small, especially with the milk cleaning container on it.
Owners report older S8s passing 15,000 to 25,000 cups with a service every few years
Most long-term reports come from the earlier S8, which brews and froths milk the same way. An office S8 made about 25,000 cups in more than four years with one grinder replaced, and a workplace S8 passed nearly 20,000 cups. At home, owners report 15,000 cups, 13,000 cups, and five years on home cleaning alone. An owner of about six years calls it "reliable, easy to use" and sends it for a service every couple of years.
Most faults owners report are in parts that wear or carry water. Some machines show a "System is filling" message and stop brewing, which points to a fault in the water flow. One owner's milk system stopped drawing milk after about 4,000 milk drinks. Others needed a service on the brewing unit, the part that presses the ground coffee and pushes water through it. A few owners report touchscreens that stop responding until the machine is unplugged, or that misread touches when wet, and two had the screen or the whole machine replaced under warranty. Three owners received a cracked water tank in a new machine. Nearly all of these reports are from older S8s, because the current S8 reached North America in early 2025, so its own track record is short. Owners of the current S8 report few faults: one has a phone app that drops its Wi-Fi connection and reconnects, and another finds a little milk left in the tube after the automatic rinse.
The S8 has a 2-year warranty when bought from an authorized Jura dealer
Jura covers the S8 for 2 years or 6,000 coffees, whichever comes first, for parts and labour. The warranty covers an S8 bought new from a Jura authorized dealer in your country, and Jura's website lists those dealers. In the United States, Jura pays ground shipping to and from its repair centre. In Canada, the owner pays shipping both ways to one of Jura's service centres. Jura can refuse a claim for damage from skipped cleaning or descaling, so run each cleaning cycle when the S8 asks.
After the warranty, Jura Canada's service centres in Mississauga, Burnaby and Montréal charge fixed prices by machine class, and the S8 is in the Premium class. A service that cleans the S8, replaces its seals and descales it (removes the mineral scale hard water leaves in the heater) costs CA$195. A repair with all parts costs CA$495, and a repair on a machine over six years old, or past 6,000 cups since its last repair, costs CA$695. Tax, shipping and outer parts such as the drip tray are extra (prices as of October 2026). Repairs come with a warranty of one year or 3,000 coffees.
The current S8 is the NAB, with Jura's P.A.G.2 grinder and Sweet Foam
Jura updated the S8 in Europe in late 2023, and the new model, labelled NAB, reached North America in early 2025. The NAB has Jura's P.A.G.2 grinder, Sweet Foam, the Extra Shot drinks, a one-touch americano, the Wi-Fi transmitter in the box and an automatic milk rinse. The S8 sold in North America until about 2024, including at Costco, has Jura's earlier Aroma G3 grinder. Many used and refurbished S8s are the earlier model, and much of the S8 advice online was written about it, so check for "NAB" or "P.A.G.2" on the listing or the box before you buy.
Buy the S8 for one-touch lattes, plain hot milk and a touchscreen in a shared kitchen
The S8 suits a home where several people drink coffee at different times, because each person can save their own drink on the touchscreen and get it the same way every time. A household that makes hot chocolate or warm milk as well as lattes gets plain hot milk from the same spout.

If you are also weighing Jura's E8, which grinds and brews with the same parts as the S8 and has a smaller screen with buttons, see Jura E8 vs S8 for the differences and our Jura E8 review for owner reports on the E8.
Jura S8 vs J8 twin: the J8 twin adds a second grinder and bean hopper
The Jura J8 twin makes the same one-touch milk drinks as the S8, with the same milk system, Sweet Foam, Extra Shot drinks, plain hot milk, Wi-Fi transmitter in the box and 1.9 L water tank. The main difference is the beans. The J8 twin has two grinders and two 180 g bean hoppers, so you can keep decaf in one and regular beans in the other, and choose either for each drink. The S8 holds one 280 g load of beans, and decaf goes through the ground-coffee chute a spoonful at a time.
The J8 twin makes 31 drinks to the S8's 27. The extra four are a caffe latte (espresso with hot milk and a thin layer of foam), its Sweet and Extra Shot versions, and hot water for green tea. The J8 twin is run from a wider 6.7-inch display panel, takes 3 cm more counter width, and as of October 2026 costs CA$4,395 against the S8's CA$3,795. A household that drinks one kind of coffee gets the same milk drinks from the S8, apart from the caffe latte, for CA$600 less.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Jura S8 worth it?
For a household that drinks lattes, flat whites and espresso and wants each one at one touch, owners rate the Jura S8 highly for its coffee, its milk foam and how far each drink can be adjusted on the touchscreen. Some owners have run older S8s past 15,000 cups, and the S8 also pours plain hot milk and makes stronger Extra Shot versions of its milk drinks.
Is a refurbished Jura S8 the current model?
Many are the earlier model. Refurbished and used S8s are often the model sold in North America until about 2024, which has Jura's earlier Aroma G3 grinder. The current Jura S8 carries "NAB" in its name and has the P.A.G.2 grinder, Sweet Foam and the Wi-Fi transmitter in the box.
What water filter does the Jura S8 use?
The Jura S8 uses Jura's Smart+ filter cartridge, sold as CLEARYL Smart+ in the United States and CLARIS Smart+ in Canada. With the filter in the tank, the S8 skips descaling as long as you change the filter when the screen asks.
How do you clean the Jura S8?
The Jura S8 tells you on screen when each job is due. Rinse the milk system after milk drinks, run the milk cleaning cycle with Jura's milk cleaner on each day you use milk, and run the 20-minute cleaning program with a Jura cleaning tablet when the S8 asks, after about 180 drinks. Empty the drip tray and grounds container each day.
Can you use ground coffee in the Jura S8?
Yes. The Jura S8 has a chute beside the bean hopper for up to two level spoonfuls of ground coffee, which it uses for a single drink. Owners use it for decaf. Use a medium grind, because Jura warns that very fine coffee can block the S8.
Beans roasted in the last few weeks taste fuller from the S8
The S8 grinds whatever is in the hopper, so beans roasted in the last few weeks give a fuller cup than older beans. Our quiz asks a few questions about how you drink coffee, then picks each month's beans to match. Take the coffee quiz →
