Jura E8 vs S8: The Same Coffee, and the S8 Adds a Touchscreen and Hot Milk
This Jura E8 vs S8 comparison is for readers choosing between these two Jura machines and wondering what the S8's higher price buys. The Jura E8 and Jura S8 grind and brew coffee with the same parts, so the decision rests on the extras: the S8's touchscreen, plain hot milk and app transmitter in the box, against the E8's Light Brew setting and lower price. The sections below take those differences one at a time.
The short answer:
- Choose the Jura E8 if you want Jura's one-touch lattes and flat whites for less, or a milder Light Brew coffee.
- Choose the Jura S8 if you want a touchscreen, plain hot milk, or an extra shot in your latte at one touch, and the phone app working from the day you unpack it.

The E8 and S8 grind and brew coffee with the same parts
Each machine has Jura's second-generation grinder, the P.A.G.2, set in 7 steps from fine to coarse. Each grinds 5 to 16 g of beans per drink, depending on the strength setting, and pushes the water through with the same 15-bar pump and single heater. The brewing unit, the part that presses the ground coffee and runs the water through it, works the same way in both. For short drinks such as espresso, each machine sends the water through in short pulses, which Jura says gives a small shot more time to take flavour. Each machine offers the same 10 strength levels, three brewing temperatures and adjustable drink sizes.
So a cup of coffee from the E8 and one from the S8 come from the same recipe. The S8 adds the touchscreen, plain hot milk, the Extra Shot drinks and the Wi-Fi transmitter, and the E8 adds Light Brew.
Older advice online says the E8 has the newer grinder. That advice dates from before 2025, when the S8 sold in North America, including at Costco, still had Jura's earlier Aroma G3 grinder. The S8 Jura sells now has the P.A.G.2, and Jura's listings for it carry "NAB" in the name. A used, refurbished or clearance S8 may be the older machine, so check for NAB or P.A.G.2 before you buy one.
The S8 has a 4.3-inch touchscreen, and the E8 has a smaller screen with buttons
The S8 is run from a 4.3-inch colour touchscreen. You swipe between pages of drinks, the way you would on a phone, and you can move a drink to the first page, copy it and save your own version of it on the screen. The E8 has a 3.5-inch colour screen with buttons down each side, and you press the button next to the drink you want.
A few owners of older S8s report the screen freezing until they unplug the machine, or misreading touches when it gets wet.
The S8 pours plain hot milk and adds extra-shot lattes, and the E8 adds Light Brew
The E8 and S8 share a milk system. Each draws milk through a thin tube from a container you keep in the fridge, froths it into foam and pours it from a spout that rises to 153 mm, tall enough for a latte glass. Each makes a cappuccino, flat white, cortado and latte macchiato at one touch, and each has Sweet Foam, which sweetens the foam with syrup from a small attachment that comes in the box.
The S8 has a wheel on the frother that switches it from foam to plain hot milk, for topping up a coffee or making a hot chocolate. Several E8 owners say they wish their E8 had this wheel, because the E8 makes the same airy foam for every milk drink, including a flat white. The S8 also makes a Sweet Latte, and Extra Shot versions of the cappuccino, flat white and latte macchiato, which add a second shot of espresso at one touch.
The E8 has Light Brew instead. Light Brew is a milder coffee made from less ground coffee at a lower temperature, about 60°C (140°F) according to Jura's dealers, and the E8 makes seven drinks this way, from espresso to latte macchiato.
Owners of the E8 and S8 alike say milk drinks come out cooler than a cafe's, and some warm the cup with hot water first. A hotter latte is a poor reason to pay for the S8.
The S8 comes with the Wi-Fi transmitter for Jura's phone app, and the E8 needs one bought separately
Jura's J.O.E. phone app lets you start a drink, change its recipe and see when the machine needs cleaning. The S8 comes with Jura's Wi-Fi Connect transmitter, a small plug-in part that links the machine to your home Wi-Fi. For the E8 the transmitter is sold separately. Once it is fitted, the E8's app adds a Coffee Timer that starts a drink at a set time, up to 16 hours ahead. The Coffee Timer is on the E8 only.
The E8 and S8 need the same daily milk cleaning
Milk left in the tube spoils, so each machine asks for a rinse after every milk drink, and each can do that rinse by itself if you turn the setting on: the S8 eight minutes after the drink, the E8 fifteen. On each day you make milk drinks, both machines need a cleaning cycle with Jura's milk cleaner. Jura says the daily milk clean takes about two minutes, and owners of both machines report anywhere from 90 seconds to five minutes.
The E8 and S8 each ask for a coffee cleaning tablet about every 180 drinks. With Jura's water filter in the tank, neither needs descaling, a cycle that removes the mineral scale hard water leaves in the heater, as long as you replace the filter when the screen asks.
Owners report the same kinds of faults on the E8 and S8 as they age
Owners of older E8s and S8s report the same faults with age: leaks in the water path and a worn brewing unit, which Jura's service centre or a handy owner can fix. S8 owners also report milk systems that stop drawing milk. Owners of both machines report passing 20,000 cups, an office S8 at about 25,000 and an E8 at more than 25,000. Each machine has a 2-year warranty, or 6,000 coffees, when bought from an authorized Jura dealer.
The S8 costs about a quarter more than the E8 for the touchscreen, hot milk and Wi-Fi
As of October 2026, the S8 sells for CA$3,795 and the E8 for CA$2,995 in Canada, and for US$3,299 and US$2,599 in the US. The extra CA$800, or US$700, buys the touchscreen, plain hot milk, the Sweet Latte and Extra Shot drinks, and the Wi-Fi transmitter. The E8 is the newer design: its 2025 update added Light Brew, the Coffee Timer and a Quality Assistant, which reminds you when to clean and change the filter, and runs fewer of the short rinses the machine does each time you switch it on.
Choose the Jura E8 for Jura's one-touch coffee and milk drinks at a lower price
The E8 suits a household that wants Jura's one-touch espresso, lattes and flat whites and is happy pressing a button beside each drink. The E8 makes every one-touch milk drink the S8 makes apart from plain hot milk, the Sweet Latte and the Extra Shot versions. For owner reports on the E8, see our Jura E8 review.
Choose the Jura S8 for a touchscreen, hot milk and stronger lattes
The S8 suits someone who wants plain hot milk for hot chocolate or topping up a coffee, likes a latte with an extra shot, or prefers tapping a picture of the drink to pressing a button.
