Jura E6 vs E8: The E8 Adds One-Touch Lattes and Flat Whites

Jura E6 vs E8: The E8 Adds One-Touch Lattes and Flat Whites

This Jura E6 vs E8 comparison is for readers who have narrowed Jura's range to these two machines and want to know which suits their drinks. The Jura E6 and Jura E8 brew espresso and coffee the same way, so the choice comes down to milk: which drinks each makes at one touch, how tall a glass fits under the spout, and how much of the milk cleaning you do by hand. Each section below covers one of those differences.

  • Choose the Jura E6 if you drink mostly espresso, coffee and cappuccino, and want the lower-priced machine of the two.

The E8 makes lattes and flat whites at one touch, and the E6 tops out at cappuccino

The E6 and E8 each draw milk through a thin tube from a container you keep in the fridge, and each froths it into foam, the airy milk on top of a cappuccino. The E6 makes four milk drinks: cappuccino, cappuccino with an extra shot, macchiato (a shot with a spoonful of foam) and a cup of milk foam. The E8 adds a flat white (an espresso topped with a thin layer of milk), a cortado (a small espresso and milk drink) and a latte macchiato, a tall glass of milk with the espresso poured through it so it settles in layers.

The glass is part of the difference. The E8's milk spout rises to 153 mm, enough for a tall latte glass, while the E6's spout rises to 111 mm, the height of a cappuccino cup. You can set the E6 to pour more milk for a bigger cappuccino, as long as the cup fits under the 111 mm spout.

The E6 also asks for one extra step on every milk drink. You press the cappuccino button, then turn a small switch on the side of the frother to let the milk through, and turn it back when the screen asks. The E8 opens and closes the milk path by itself. One E6 owner says that if you are happy to turn a switch for the milk, the E6 has enough to offer, and another found milk drinks enough of a hassle to plan a move to the E8.

Owners say the foam from either machine is airier than the thin, glossy milk a cafe heats with a steam wand, so a flat white from the E8 comes out foamier than a cafe's. Owners of the E6 and E8 say milk drinks come out cooler than a cafe's, and several warm the cup with hot water first.

The E8 can rinse its own milk system, and the E6 rinses when you turn the switch

Milk left in the tube spoils, so each machine needs its milk system rinsed after use and cleaned with Jura's milk cleaner on each day you make milk drinks. The E8 asks to rinse after each milk drink, or does the rinse by itself 15 minutes later if you turn that setting on. The E6 asks you to rinse, and you turn the frother switch to start and stop the rinse. E8 owners say the daily cleaning cycle with milk cleaner takes four or five minutes. The E6 and E8 frothers each come apart for a rinse under the tap.

The coffee side needs the same care on the E6 and E8. Each asks for a cleaning tablet about every 180 drinks, and with Jura's water filter in the tank, each skips descaling (a cycle that removes the mineral scale hard water leaves in the heater) as long as you replace the filter when the screen asks.

The E6 and E8 brew espresso and coffee the same way, and the E8 adds Light Brew and a coffee timer

For black coffee, the E6 and E8 are close to identical. Every cup is ground fresh from 5 to 16 g of coffee, depending on the strength setting. For short drinks such as espresso, water goes through the coffee in short pulses, which Jura says gives a small shot more time to take flavour. The two machines share the same 10 strength levels and three brewing temperatures. The E8 has Jura's newer grinder, set in 7 steps. On the E6, the coffees topped up with hot water, such as the americano, also take a turn of the frother switch, because the hot water comes out of the frother.

One E8 owner whose household makes almost only espressos and americanos says they would probably be as happy with the E6, because the E8's extra cost goes on milk drinks they rarely make.

The E8 adds two kinds of drink the E6 leaves out. Light Brew is a milder coffee brewed from less ground coffee at a lower temperature, about 60°C (140°F) according to Jura's dealers. Sweet Foam sweetens the milk foam with syrup from a small attachment on the frother. The E8 also has a coffee timer that starts a drink at a set time, up to 16 hours ahead, which you set in Jura's J.O.E. phone app once Jura's Wi-Fi Connect transmitter, sold separately, is plugged in. Light Brew, Sweet Foam and the timer arrived with the 2025 E8, and owners have yet to post much about them.

The E6 and E8 take the same counter space and hold the same water and beans

The E6 is 28 cm wide and the E8 is 27 cm, and each is 44.6 cm deep and about 35 cm tall. Each machine holds 1.9 L of water, enough for about a dozen 150 ml coffees, and 280 g of beans in one hopper, so one coffee is loaded at a time. A chute beside the hopper takes a spoonful of ground coffee when you want a single decaf.

Choose the Jura E6 for espresso, coffee and cappuccino

The E6 suits someone who drinks espresso, americanos or a daily cappuccino and wants Jura's coffee for less. An E6 owner who drinks mainly coffee, with an occasional milk drink, is glad to have skipped the higher price of the E8. A daily cappuccino on the E6 takes one turn of the frother switch to start the milk and one to stop it.

Choose the Jura E8 for lattes, flat whites and tall glasses

The E8 suits a household that drinks mostly milk drinks: lattes in tall glasses, flat whites, and several people making their own, because each milk drink is one press with no switch to learn. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Jura E6 and E8?

The Jura E6 and Jura E8 brew espresso and coffee the same way, from the same size of water tank and bean hopper. The E8 adds latte macchiato, flat white and cortado at one touch, fits a glass up to 153 mm tall under the milk spout, starts and stops the milk by itself, and adds Light Brew, Sweet Foam and a coffee timer.

Is the Jura E8 worth it over the E6?

The Jura E8 is worth it if you make lattes or flat whites most days or share the machine with several people, because each milk drink is one press. If you drink mostly espresso, coffee and cappuccino, the Jura E6 brews them for less, and you turn a switch on its frother for each milk drink.

Can the Jura E6 make a latte?

The Jura E6 makes cappuccino, macchiato and milk foam, and you can set it to pour more milk for a bigger drink, in a cup up to 111 mm tall. For a latte in a tall glass at one touch, the Jura E8 makes a latte macchiato.

Fresh beans give the E6 and E8 more flavour to grind

Each machine grinds whatever is in the hopper, so beans roasted in the last few weeks give a fuller cup than beans that have sat on a shelf for months. Our quiz asks a few questions about how you drink coffee, then picks each month's beans to match. Take the coffee quiz →
