About the Coffee

This coffee comes from around 200 smallholder producers spread across the Galeras region of Nariño, Colombia, farming in the shadow of the Galeras Volcano. Nariño sits at some of Colombia's highest growing elevations, and the region has built a reputation for producing clean, structured washed coffees. The Galeras lot is a community effort, drawing from multiple small farms and processed as a single program to maintain consistency across the group.

Each lot goes through a 25-hour fermentation before being dried in parabolic dryers (greenhouse-style tunnel dryers that control airflow and temperature). That controlled drying environment is key to getting an even, stable result, especially in a region where weather can be unpredictable. The combination of careful fermentation timing and temperature-managed drying keeps the final cup clean and balanced, which is what washed Colombian coffees from this area are known for.

Monogram has been sourcing from producers in this region for several years. The program has grown steadily, with more farmers joining each season, which speaks to the consistency of both the quality standards and the working relationship behind it.

About Monogram

Monogram was started by Ben, Justin, and Jeremy, three baristas who met early in their careers and shared an interest in specialty coffee that felt approachable rather than exclusive. They launched out of a hand-built coffee cart in Calgary before opening their first cafe in Altadore in 2014.

Their sourcing is built on long-term producer relationships. They work directly with farms like Finca Takesi in Bolivia, Finca Deborah in Panama, and the Lamastus family's Elida Estate, returning to the same producers year after year. Ben Put, one of the founders, has won the Canadian Barista Championship seven times and placed third at the 2025 World Barista Championship, which reflects the level of attention the team brings to how coffee is selected, roasted, and prepared.
