About the Coffee

Luis Choquehuanca farms in the mountains outside of Caranavi, Bolivia, a region accessible only by winding roads and steep climbs. Luis started with just one hectare of production and has grown his farm to more than seven through replanting, improved farm management, and a steady focus on quality. He works alongside his wife and two sons, and that family effort shows in how the farm has developed over the years.

Luis was one of the first producers to join Agricafe's Sol De La Mañana program, an initiative built around helping Bolivian producers improve coffee quality and long-term farm sustainability. Through the program, he received support with education, replanting, and variety selection, which helped him expand production and build more consistent results year over year. The natural process used on this lot means the coffee cherries are dried whole before milling, which concentrates the fruit and produces a more intense, complex cup.

Monogram has been buying coffee from Luis for more than seven years and visits his farm on sourcing trips to Bolivia. That length of relationship is worth noting: it means Monogram has watched the farm grow in real time and has had a hand in supporting that growth through consistent purchasing. Details like a new home project or hearing his kids' latest interests are part of what gets reported back from those visits, which gives a sense of how personal these connections are.

About Monogram

Ben Put, Justin Eyford, and Jeremy Ho started Monogram in Calgary after meeting as baristas early in their careers. They opened their first location in Altadore in 2014, starting from a hand-built coffee cart. Their shared background was in exploring coffee together, not from within a single industry, as the three came from music, health sciences, and development before coffee became the common thread.

Monogram's sourcing is built around long-term producer relationships. Beyond Luis in Bolivia, they work with farms like Finca Takesi, Finca Deborah, and Elida Estate, returning to the same producers year after year rather than buying on the spot market. Ben Put has won the Canadian Barista Championship seven times and placed third at the 2025 World Barista Championship, which reflects the level of attention the team brings to how coffee is selected, roasted, and prepared.
