About the Coffee
Strawberry Fields comes from family-owned farms in the Kintamani highlands of Bali, a growing region shaped by the volcanic soils of Mount Agung. Farms here are small and mixed-use: producers grow Bourbon, Typica, and Catimorvarietals alongside citrus trees, which provide shade for the coffee and a secondary income for farming families.
Coffee production in Kintamani runs through the Subak Abian system, a traditional ecological farming structure built around Tri Hita Karana, a Balinese philosophy of harmony between people, nature, and the spiritual world. Natural processing (drying the whole coffee cherry rather than removing the fruit first) became common here partly out of necessity. Water scarcity made wet processing difficult, and since raised drying beds were already in use for parchment coffee, the shift to drying whole cherry was a practical step. The method has since taken hold across the region, consistently producing coffees with more fruit character and body.
The name Strawberry Fields fits the coffee's reputation in Kintamani, where the combination of volcanic soil, altitude, and natural processing has made the area known for producing distinctly fruit-forward Indonesian coffees.
About Rosso
Rosso has been roasting coffee in Calgary for 16 years. Over that time, they've built their sourcing around direct relationships with producers and a focus on coffees that reflect the specific places they come from.
Their approach leans toward sourcing beans with regional character and processing methods that are tied to the land and farming culture behind them, which is part of why a coffee like this one, rooted in the Subak Abian farming tradition of Bali, fits their lineup.
