About the Coffee
Two Wheel is a blended espresso that combines two origins: a washed Ethiopia Limmu and a natural Brazil Santa Lucia. Rosso updates the blend seasonally, so the specific lots can change, but the current version pulls from Limmu, a region in southwestern Ethiopia known for its lower-altitude farms sitting between 1,400 and 1,800 meters. Washed processing there means the fruit is removed from the bean before drying, which tends to produce cleaner, more defined cup character compared to natural methods.
The Brazil component comes from Santa Lucia, processed naturally, meaning the whole coffee cherry is dried with the fruit still on. This method, common in Brazil's drier climate, tends to add body and a rounder texture to the cup. Pairing a washed Ethiopian with a natural Brazilian is a common blending approach for espresso: the Ethiopian brings brightness and clarity, while the Brazilian grounds it with weight. Together they're designed to work across brew methods, though Rosso built this one with espresso in mind.
Rosso lists the coffee as ethically sourced and sustainably harvested. The product page doesn't detail specific producer relationships or farming practices for the component lots, so if that level of information matters to you, it's worth reaching out to Rosso directly.
About Rosso
Rosso has been roasting coffee in Calgary, Alberta since around 2008. Over that time, they've built a reputation in the Canadian specialty coffee scene, earning recognition for their sourcing and roasting approach. Their philosophy centers on working closely with producers and letting the quality of the green coffee lead, rather than roasting over it.
On the sourcing side, Rosso looks for coffees that reflect a specific place and processing approach, which is why their single origins and blends tend to be updated as new lots come in rather than staying static year-round.
