About the Coffee
The Barbosa Family has been growing coffee in Carmo do Paranaíba, Minas Gerais since the early twentieth century. Their operation is based in this part of Brazil's Cerrado Mineiro region, where farms sit between 1,016 and 1,290 meters above sea level. A team of ten people runs the day-to-day work, handling everything from field to warehouse.
The Barbosa Family grows Red Catuai, a variety bred in Brazil in the 1940s by crossing Mundo Novo and Caturra. It was developed to be compact and high-yielding while holding up well against wind and rain. After harvest, the coffee is processed naturally, meaning the whole cherry is dried with the fruit still intact around the seed. This adds sweetness and body to the final cup.
Quality control runs through every stage of production. The family tracks the coffee from tree to warehouse using a traceability program, with their team monitoring each step along the way. The varietal selection and harvest timing are both handled in-house, keeping the process tightly managed from start to finish.
