Luis Marino Ortega has been growing coffee in San Agustín for nearly 40 years. After military service, he bought land and planted 1,800 Caturra trees to make coffee his primary income source.
In 2010, Marino planted 20,000 Castillo trees for disease resistance but encountered quality issues. Rather than give up, he worked with relatives in the Los Naranjos growers' association to gain access to better prices.
2021 marked a turning point when Marino started replacing Castillo with high-quality Pink Bourbon, which he'd planted five years earlier. His commitment now shows in consistently outstanding harvests and increased production.
