About the Coffee
Huye Mountain Coffee is a private washing station in Southern Rwanda's Huye District, established in 2011 to connect area farmers with international specialty buyers. Around 1,330 producers deliver cherry to 26 collecting stations spread across the Huye community, where a truck runs a daily pickup route during harvest. Farms sit between 1,600 and 2,200 meters.
This lot is natural processed, meaning the whole cherry dries intact rather than having the fruit removed first. The coffee spends 14 to 28 days on raised African beds, with the exact time depending on weather. Workers turn the cherries regularly through the drying period and evaluate them repeatedly for quality, pulling out anything that isn't drying evenly.
About Library Coffee
The Library Specialty Coffee started in Toronto, founded by Jeffrey Ji, who modeled the shop on the Australian-style cafes he knew from living in Melbourne. The design nods to that background directly, including tiling by the front door that mirrors the "Standing Room Only" entrance at Melbourne's Patricia coffee bar.
Library built its coffee program around Sweet Bloom, a Denver roaster known for sourcing rare and single-origin lots, and pairs those beans with a slow, deliberate pour over process at a dedicated station in the cafe. Each pour over is measured out individually, timed through blooming and brewing, and served as something closer to a short ritual than a quick order.
- Dean, Director of Coffee
"The Library is a newer Toronto coffee roaster I stumbled across earlier this summer. I first tried Library coffee from a lever-powered espresso machine at Blue Cat Padel. Their lighter roasts can compete among the best in Toronto: very clean, balanced, and fruity."
