About the Coffee

The Rodríguez family has worked in Bolivian coffee since 1986. Pedro Rodríguez runs the business with his children, Daniela and Pedro Pablo, growing Agricafé from a regional milling operation into one of the country's leading producers. They farm across Caranavi and Samaipata, two regions with different climates and soils, which lets them test new growing and processing methods across varied conditions.

Monogram has bought coffee from the Rodríguez family and Agricafé for over a decade. In that time, the family has moved toward more sustainable and productive farming practices and started experimenting with processing methods borrowed from winemaking. They pass along what they learn to other producers in the region.

This lot is Caturra, a variety grown across Latin America for its balance and sweetness. Natural processing here means the cherries dry whole with the fruit intact around the seed, which pulls out a more fruit-forward, expressive side of the variety.

About Monogram

Ben, Justin, and Jeremy met working as baristas early in their coffee careers, coming from backgrounds in music, health sciences, and development. They started Monogram from a hand-built coffee cart.

Monogram buys coffee through long-term relationships with producers, including Mariana Iturralde at Finca Takesi in Bolivia, Jamison Savage at Finca Deborah in Panama, and the Lamastus family at Elida Estate. The team has represented Canada at the World Barista Championship, with members holding 10 Canadian Barista Championship titles combined.
