Nespresso Vertuo Pop+ vs Vertuo Next vs VertuoPlus (2026)

The Vertuo Next brews every Vertuo size, including a carafe for two or three people. The Vertuo Pop+ costs the least, and the black VertuoPlus holds the most water and opens its own lid. Vertuo is Nespresso's pod system for mugs as well as espresso. Each machine reads a barcode on the pod and brews the pod to Nespresso's settings. A pod tastes the same in the Pop+, the Next and the VertuoPlus.

The Next brews the carafe, and the VertuoPlus stops at a 230 ml mug

The Vertuo Next brews all six Vertuo sizes, from a 40 ml espresso to the 535 ml carafe, which fills a small pot for two or three people. The Vertuo Pop+ brews five, up to the 355 ml Alto, Nespresso's largest single mug. The VertuoPlus brews four, up to a 230 ml coffee. For Alto pods, choose the Pop+ or the Next. For carafe pods, choose the Next.

The VertuoPlus holds about seven mugs of water, and the Pop+ about three

The black VertuoPlus Deluxe has a 1.8 L tank, enough for about seven 230 ml mugs before a refill. Other VertuoPlus versions hold about 1.2 L. The Next's 1.1 L tank holds four full mugs, and the Pop+'s 0.75 L tank holds three.

Only the VertuoPlus lid opens and closes itself

One button opens the VertuoPlus lid, closes it after you drop in a pod, and drops the used pod into a bin that holds 13. On the Pop+ and the Next, you lift and close the lid by hand.

Owners of the Pop+, Next and VertuoPlus all report leaks

Owners report leaks on all three machines. Across all of Nespresso's reviews, Next owners rate the Next lower than Pop+ owners rate the Pop+. In reviews from 2026, Next and Pop+ owners report problems at about the same rate. Pop+ owners also report machines that stop working, and a loud brew. VertuoPlus owners report leaks starting between 4 and 14 months of use, and the VertuoPlus lid can jam if a brew is interrupted.

Choose the Vertuo Next if you want every Vertuo size in one machine, including the carafe for two or three people. The Next's 1.1 L tank fills four 230 ml mugs before a refill.

Choose the Vertuo Pop+ if one or two people drink a mug or two a day. The Pop+ costs the least of the three and brews every size up to the 355 ml Alto. The Pop+'s 0.75 L tank needs a refill after three 230 ml mugs.

Choose the black VertuoPlus if you drink several regular mugs a day and want to refill the tank as seldom as possible. The VertuoPlus brews up to a 230 ml coffee, so for Alto pods choose the Pop+ or the Next, and for carafe pods choose the Next.
